The beauty behind your unique style

Just like other aspects of life, style portrays a variety of things. These can include the way someone is feeling, what they are interested in, a certain color or material that they like, maybe a particular band or artist that they listen to, or even an organization that you support or are a part of.

The way that people dress can sometimes deliver a message to others. The way that we are perceived by others, and how we perceive ourselves, is something that I think means a great deal to many individuals, and I am one of them. With that being said, I do not dress the way I do, and my style is not the way it is for a particular reason other than the fact that it's what I love and what I take a great amount of pride in.

Growing up, I was constantly at battle with my weight, and going shopping for clothes was something that I dreaded. You know that feeling that you got when summer was coming to an end, and school was about to start back up? Anxious as ever. I feel like back to school shopping was something to help get you back into the groove, but I was never excited for it in my early years.

I was constantly insecure about finding my size in something, or even finding anything that fit right at all. It was something that was supposed to be fun, but it usually brought me to a constant reminder of my biggest insecurity: my weight. My mom and my sister were a great support system, and always encouraged me and reminded me that I would find stuff that fit, it just might take a little more time.

So, fast forward to my high school years, I couldn't wait to go shopping for new clothes for the new school year. Yes, I had surpassed the chubby child years, but I also had an entire, new amount of confidence. Much of this was gained and displayed through my style. I LOVED shopping, and what I learned is this: your weight should not define you, and it does not define you. Don't be afraid to get the bigger size if you feel better in it, because chances are, it looks better too. This was something that I learned was okay, and not to be insecure about having to size up sometimes, because we all have to.

Alongside of that, it really just depends where you are shopping, what you are shopping for, and how the article is made. Clothes in my closet range from a size small to even a size xxl, just depends on the item! And I am SO okay with this, because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the size says on your tag, as long as you are loving what you are putting on your body. To me, it is about feeling great. I have a "look good, feel good" mentality, and I'm tellin' ya, it's a real thing. My days are 10x better when I like what I am wearing, and I feel like I can take on the world!

This was an outfit I put together this past winter. My white top and jeans are both from Gabe's. I thrifted my jacket from the men's section at the Village Discount Outlet. My necklace is The Giving Keys that I found at T.J. Maxx. I purchased my Sorel snow boots on eBay for half of their retail price!

Your style can tell so much about you, and it is something that I encourage you to take some pride in! I hope your week is fabulous, until next time.

♡XO, Maddy
